Toyota Prius Hybrid Trainer

HYB-001

Fully operational petrol/electric hybrid trainer manufactured using original automotive components.

The Hybrid trainer is based upon a MK III Toyota Prius. This comes complete with HV System, Petrol engine, Cooling, Exhaust, Ignition, Start, Fully operation CVT transmission and diagnostic functionality.

The regeneration of the high voltage system can be observed during a driving cycle. This is displayed by the energy monitor in the center of the instrument panel.

In conjunction with the petrol engine typically, a 2NZ-FE, the operation of the Hybrid system along with the petrol engine can be seen on the energy monitor.

With the hybrid trainer in drive observations can be made of the Hybrid trainer operating in electric mode, with the petrol engine engaged and the regeneration of the Hybrid system.

As there is a potential for the petrol engine to engage at any time when the Hybrid trainer is in ready mode, an additional flashing beacon has been fitted to alert everyone near the Hybrid trainer of a possible engine start. Ready mode is also displayed on the instrument panel as per the original vehicle application.

Along with the Orange Service plug, additional safety features have been fitted to isolate the battery control system with the clear makrolon case raised.

For normal running of the Hybrid Trainer the makrolon case needs to be lowered and locked into position. The Orange Service Plug can then be inserted in preparation to bring the Hybrid trainer into ready mode.

An orange box with a warning sign on it.

The driver’s side HV error box is located at the front of the Hybrid trainer. This allows faults to be safely placed into the high voltage system. This error box has 2 switches; C engages a HV short to chassis and D for an absence of voltage test.

The passenger’s side HV error box is located at the side of the Hybrid trainer. This allows faults to be safely placed into the high voltage system. This error box has 2 switches; A engages a HV short to ground and B a HV interphase short.

The upper glove box contains 12 error switches for engaging faults the engine control system and hybrid control system. With a suitable diagnostic tester connected, fault codes can be displayed and recorded. Full details of codes and errors for all 3 error boxes are listed within the Hybrid training manual.

When the hybrid trainer is not in use, the ignition key and the orange service plug can be safely stored in the grey key box. While providing safe storage, there is no detection of the key in this location. The ignition key is only detected when in the centre console cup holder. This also provides safe storage of the service plug.
