"The knowledge and passion shines through"

We recently had a visit at one of our campuses with multiple training rigs – including the Hydrogen vehicle. Being able to not only discuss the resources, but to see these on site is key to us being able to fully consider the impact these resources could have on lessons and assessments.

Furthermore, being able to speak directly with those who have spent time researching, developing and creating the training rigs (especially the hydrogen vehicle) is brilliant. The knowledge and passion shines through, and it’s great to discuss resources at depth.

"A Cutting-Edge Hydrogen Fuel Cell Training Vehicle Experience"

Firstly, can I say a really big thank you the TEAM at Weston College, for making Lee feel so well received and for you treating him so well when he came across to do the demo.

‘’Lee Trussler, National Sales Manager for Block Automotive Limited travelled to Weston College last week to provide a full demonstrate our new Hydrogen trainer to Weston College. Weston College’s Team made Lee feel very welcome, the level interest and excitement was marvellous. The demonstration allowed Weston College the opportunity to inspect the training rig and further consider how their planned Hydrogen training course can be enhanced by use of our Automotive training rig providing synergy and exact parallels between education and Industry through the provision of cutting edge education in the Hydrogen and Electric Vehicle space.

We are very proud of our team that work tirelessly for Block Automotive, their commitment and constant drive for perfection and excellence in all that they do has firmly established Block Automotive as a Market leader in Vocational training equipment and support.

We are very grateful to be working with Weston College and are excited to be contributing to the further evolution of their Automotive Department, are thanks to Chris Priest, Ross Hawkins and their TEAM for hosting us at their amazing premises in Weston-Super-Mare.’’

    "The students liked the technology"

The demonstration of the MIrai by Lee was a huge success and a fantastic experience for the students and staff, who found it to be very thought provoking about the future of the motor vehicles power source.

So, thank you for allowing lee to bring it up to Coventry College.

Hydrogen is proving to be a very viable alternative to the full EV With its Finite Lithium heart and limited range.

That was the consensus from those who attended the impromptu seminar.

The way the car was sectioned showed that a lot of thought had gone into its development.

The students liked the technology and the way everything was laid out, made it easier for them to understand the processes that eventually made the electricity to power not only the vehicle, but possibly the house they live in.

    Thanks once again.

"It is a fantastic bit of kit and engineering."

With the move towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, Coleg Cambria is doing its bit by encouraging the motor vehicle repair and maintenance industry to update their employees training in Hybrid and electric vehicles.

We purchased the Hybrid Training Rig based on a Toyota Prius. It is a fantastic bit of kit and engineering. The trainer has been designed with safety first to ensure all learners have the risk of working with high voltages reduced to a minimum. It is incredibly versatile and can be used to introduce hybrid/electric vehicle technology  to students as well as taking them further in depth. It has been designed to introduce various low voltage and high voltage faults safely and effectively. With that in mind, it is an incredibly safe option to teach to level 4 hybrid/electric vehicle standards.

Well done for the Block Automotive team for producing such a training aid at this time of transition in the motor vehicle repair industry. Good stuff!!

"We find the Block EV/Hybrid easy to use and very good for teaching our IMI EV/Hybrid courses."

I am the Learning and Skills Lead for Automotive Engineering at Lincoln College. During the first Covid-19 lockdown, we were able to develop our automotive workshops and modernise our qualifications and teaching resources.

There are a number of electric vehicle training resources on the market, so I needed to do some research before purchasing.

    The three options I considered were;

    • Bespoke board-based trainers
      • Benefits – could be low voltage options and therefore safer, easier to store and fit onto a classroom, work alongside training software.
      • Disadvantages – they aren’t cars, layouts and test procedures aren’t realistic
    • Electric/Hybrid Cars
      • Benefits – it’s the real thing with real components and systems
      • Disadvantages – Difficult for groups to see what’s going on and additional work required to fit breakout boxes and add faults
    • Specific Vehicle Trainers
      • Benefits – real vehicle systems which work as they should, switchable faults on low and high voltage systems, easy to demonstrate and see what’s going on.
      • Disadvantages – costly, large in size

After a lot of research I bought the Block trainers (Nissan Leaf EV and Toyota Prius Hybrid).

Above I have listed the benefits and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is the cost. However, went I considered the full package of training, tooling Instruction manual and support, the cost comes a lot more realistic. Add in the usability and openness of the systems which allow a group of people to see clearly what is going on and there really isn’t anything else to consider. We have benefitted from IMI EV training of both L3 and L4, Laser EV tooling which includes all the safety signage and a support package which is only a phone call away.

We have facilitated EV training for a number of large companies. A comment from one of the attendees said

“The course was well run and the EV set-up was very impressive. Also worth a shout out was the staff, everyone I met was extremely helpful and Neil ran a very enjoyable and informative course, I’m looking forward to coming back for my level 4 in December.”

We find the Block EV/Hybrid easy to use and very good for teaching our IMI EV/Hybrid courses. They have a presence in our Electric Avenue – EV workshop which is highly practical and help us to break down the subject of working on electric vehicles into smaller chunks which is easy to follow and understand.
